Two separate disclosures. The Parliamentary Service publishes every MP’s travel and accommodation; the Department of Internal Affairs publishes ministers’ travel separately, because it is a different bill. Someone who is both a minister and an electorate MP is in both — kept apart here rather than added together.

Average per member, by party
Averaged per MP, so it reflects how far a party’s members travel rather than how many it has. Electorate geography drives most of it.

Totalled across the term. A member who arrived or left partway through is summed over the quarters they appear in, and marked with how many that was — a part-term total is not the same as a full-term one.

About the MP figures
- Travel and accommodation only. The disclosure does not include MPs' office, staff or communications costs, so this is not a total cost-of-an-MP figure.
- Ministerial travel is excluded — the Department of Internal Affairs publishes ministers' travel separately, so a minister's figure here understates their total travel.
- Figures are per quarter as the Parliamentary Service published them. Some quarters note that a total includes costs relating to an earlier quarter that were processed late; those are not reallocated here.
- Members are matched across quarters by name. A member who changed the name they are listed under would appear as two people; none is known to, but the join is by name, not by a stable id.
- The reported Grand Total is accommodation plus travel plus VIP transport. Inter-parliamentary travel (Office of the Clerk) is disclosed in a separate column and is shown separately here.
- The Parliamentary Service changed how it splits travel partway through this period — from Air / Surface (2024) to International / Domestic (2025). The travel total is comparable across the change; the sub-split is not, so it is shown per quarter with the labels the source actually used.
- The 2024 disclosures are rounded to whole dollars, so a member's categories can sum to a dollar or two either side of the total the source printed. The published total is shown as-is; the figures are not re-rounded to force them to agree.

About the ministerial figures
- Ministers only — this is the executive's travel, published separately from the MP travel and accommodation the Parliamentary Service discloses. A person who is both a minister and an electorate MP appears in both datasets, and the two are not added together here.
- International travel is Cabinet-approved official travel and can include the costs of a spouse, staff and other ministers travelling as part of the party, as well as provisional and cancelled-flight costs — so a single large figure may cover more than one traveller.
- Surface travel bundles VIP/Crown vehicles, taxis, rental cars, parking, tolls and mileage into one figure.
- Figures exclude GST, fringe benefit tax and depreciation. Some quarters note a non-standard number of paydays, which moves the flat Wellington accommodation figure.
- A negative figure is a credit or correction processed in the quarter, shown as the source reports it rather than zeroed.
